The Elqi river valley runs from the high altitudes of the Andes west and meets the Pacific Ocean in La Serana, which sits under the low clouds the middle left of this image.

Sunsets are spectacular on Cerro Tololo. The entire sky and everything in contact with the setting suns rays changes from pink to orange to red and so on..

    Large & Small Magellanic Clouds + 47-Tucanae

Captured these beauties from Cerro Tololo using a 35mm f/1.4 at f/2.2. Stacked 99 13-second images to make this bugger. Being somewhat limited in what I couild bring to CT, meant I had to get creative and find ways to stack images without any tracking aids; basically shooting form a fixed tripod. I love how this turned out given those conditions.

From left to right - the bright star is Canopus, then the Large Magellanic Cloud, the Small Magellanic Cloud and the globular star cluster 47Tucanea. 47Tuc has a total mass of about 700,000 solar masses and contains at wide variety of star types. It's about 17,000 LY from Earth, and exists on the fringes of our Milky Way Galaxy. It's the second larges globular cluster in the night sky, behind Alpha Centauri.

This is one my favorite pictures I've ever taken. The (waning gibbous) moon was up, and provided enough light to expose the inside of the dome, but was also opposite the direction of the scope. This allowed me to use a single 30 second exposure to get this shot. I selectively processed the dome and night sky portions independently to make a nice, balanced exposure.
