Startrails Around Southern Pole Over the CTIO Dormitory.

CTIO is the Cerro Tololo Inter-American Observatory and is home to the 4-meter Blanco telescope and the Dark Energy Camera. It is located in the southern Atacoma Desert in Chilean state of Coquimbo.

This image was made by taking many 40 second exposures and combining them with Photoshop to create startrails. This method is very good because it reduces the influence of thermal noise on the final image compared to a single very long exposure.

Notice the little viscacha who hopped into the frame during the exposures.
