Rainy Day in Amsterdam - 2014

This is a place I'd like to continue photographing for the foreseeable future. The city is changing more in the Center. It still has plenty of old world coolness and crazy tolerance for humanity, but very slowly old buildings are being replaced by glass ones or modern replicas. Even in that context, some things will likely never change - bicycle and pedestrian traffic are more common than autos rain or shine.

Startrails Around Southern Pole Over the CTIO Dormitory.

CTIO is the Cerro Tololo Inter-American Observatory and is home to the 4-meter Blanco telescope and the Dark Energy Camera. It is located in the southern Atacoma Desert in Chilean state of Coquimbo. This image was made by taking many 40 second exposures and combining them with Photoshop to create startrails. This method is very good because it reduces the influence of thermal noise on the final image compared to a single very long exposure. Notice the little viscacha who hopped into the frame during the exposures.

Amsterdam Canal in City Center - 2014 - Marty Murphy

I spent a few days wandering around the city with my camera and tripod. On this particular evening I spent many of the daylight hours in the Van Gogh Museum. So much early work there - he started out painting country peasant life with a documentarian's flair for dramatic lighting and compelling stories. Then he got me looking at comparably mundane subjects - self portraits, bedrooms, - with a different eye. He documented his life and surroundings with equal vigor as if to show the world: "Look - this is what I am and where I did my work.; it will absolutely matter in the future!" But I digress. Amsterdam is a pretty nice place to wander about day or night.
